🚨🚨EPI estimates that 3.4 million Americans filed new claims for unemployment insurance this past week, which would raise the unemployment rate by 2 percentage points from 3.5% to 5.5%. https://www.epi.org/blog/coronavirus-record-breaking-spike-in-ui-claims/ …pic.twitter.com/8Zihx0D2Tw

@EconomicPolicy @paulgp @aaronsojourner - am I reading this right that the 2% increase in the unemployment rate is due entirely to UI claims? Since the recipiency rate is between 25 and 30% do we need to actually multiply by three or four to get the total impact on unemployment?

Sometimes more is going on behind the blog text than is immediately apparent so I just want to make sure I'm understanding things. Granted, I suspect the recipiency rate will increase because the UI system has been so publicized in the last couple weeks, but maybe that's wrong.
