6/6 To expand economic opportunity and increase equity, we must change how we do budgeting & legislating in RI, to make sure we consider individual expenditures and the budget as a whole in terms of whether they increase or decrease racial, ethnic, gender, and other disparities.

5/6 Importantly, although the Governor’s Rhode Island 2030 plan calls in its very first sentence for equity and calls several times for applying a “race equity lens,” the FY2024 budget barely mentions or invests in equity.

4/6 The budget should also include provisions to strengthen the state’s paid leave & RI Works cash assistance programs, to increase the minimum wage more quickly, & to improve tax fairness and raise sustainable revenue for when the extra federal aid and budget surpluses go away.

Check out @PaigeCParks interview with @wpri about @RIKidsCount priorities including improving paid family leave wpri.com/news/local-new - RI has fallen behind our neighboring states in number of weeks offered to families + wage replacement rate during leave.

RI has been a leader in est. a paid family leave program but has now fallen behind 11 other states by offering the lowest wage replacement rate and fewest # of weeks of leave. We need to ⬆️ both so all parents- esp. lower wage-earning parents-have adequate income during leave
