I'm a little bit jealous of people who didn't know what "incel" was before now. Also a little annoyed because frankly a lot of the people who didn't know what it was are part of why the ideas exist.

Autistic community (like most communities) has a toxic masculinity problem. Where our toxic masculinity problem starts is with what non-Autistics teach (or fail to teach) us about gender and sexuality. So.

I'd guess "treating other ppl as equally human" is a major difference btwn Autistic ppl who have fulfilling sex lives & "InCel"s.

Here's the top of the "incel" thread because it gets a bit long I guess.https://twitter.com/EbThen/status/865255722501771264 …

Somehow "InCel" became a topic on Autistic Twitter again and I'm just rolling my eyes like COME THE FUCK ON.

A quick TL;DR: 1. "Incel" = involuntary celibacy = not having sex, not because you don't want to, but because no one will have sex with you. 2. Autistic boys and men often get taught toxic masculinity as part of "social skills" around gender and sexuality. 1/

TL;DR, cont. 3. Part of toxic masculinity is treating sex as a thing men are owed for existing. The incel "philosophy" is: If men are not having sex, it can only be because of oppression or the badness of women. 2/

TL;DR, cont. 4. A lot of white cis Autistic boys and men believe they are owed sex and the fact that they aren't having sex (if they aren't) is because of ableism and the badness of women. That is, a lot of white cis Autistic men have bought into "incel" to explain things. 3/

TL;DR, cont. 5. My perspective, as a nologender (woman-ish) Autistic person, is that this is all bullshit. Given a lot of mainstream "wisdom" about Autisticness and evo psych, I can see why so many white cis Autistic men buy into the incel idea. It's just wrong. 4/4

But broadly this is how it seems to me that this works wrt Autistic boys and men. 1. Teaching toxic masculinity as "gender roles."

If nothing else, Atypical's value is that it shows what non-Autistic ppl think Autistic young men need to learn to become "normal."
