Uh don't read the comments unless you want to get mad at a lot of transmisic people who are lying to themselves and others.

e.g. "'woman' is clear; 'person who has a cervix' is less clear". Like that's literally the opposite of what is true and relevant, so.

Also there are cis women who don't have cervixes, but it's not like TERFs want to acknowledge that on their "put back the word 'woman/women'" campaign.

The guidance is for "who should get a cervical screening" and it's a lie to say anything other than "anyone between ages 25 and 65 with a cervix". I mean we're moving beyond the gender binary. Get over it.

How I saw this is it turns out what I thought was an interesting science account was actually... not.

The argument that obviously trans people are going to know whether or not they have a cervix but cis women won't, so why should health info be inclusive of trans people? it's more or less just an argument that trans people's healthcare needs aren't as important as cis people's.

Not the doctor. A different science account.https://twitter.com/EbThen/status/1309446007537664000 …

If the concern is people won't know what a cervix is and whether they need to be screened for cervical problems at a reproductive health check, that info sheet can include a glossary and diagram. In fact, it should just in general.

The NHS actually does "all women and people with a cervix" and I'm not a fan because first of all trans women exist and are women and secondly, as I have said, not all cis women have cervixes.

The HSE, the Heath Service Executive, which is what OP is complaining about, is Ireland's national health service.

TBH, though, the HSE also has a thing called the CervicalCheck Register and automatically sends reminders to patients when it's time for their next cervical screening so the complaint that "patients don't know what a cervix is" seems disingenuous.

People in Ireland who have a Personal Public Service number are automatically registered for that service when they hit the right age range. The website doesn't specify, but I'd sort of assume the people who get those reminders are generally in the database as women.

The form to opt out of the HSE CervicalCheck Register, btw, is called "Opt-off By Woman".

The point here is that Irish cis women in Ireland are almost certainly not at risk of missing their cervical screenings because of language that doesn't use the word "woman".

TBH the idea that people go into their doctor's office like "I need this specific test done because the national health guidance says so" and their doctors don't get pissy about it is just ridiculous to me as a starting point.

My first time at a gynecologist I had no idea what I was being checked for, just that it was a thing I was supposed to do.
