Alternative - fight twice. First time the BBG goes to zero, cut scene it, pull everyone out of combat, pause concentration count downs (let them know) and have a cinematic cut scene where more henchmen join the fight and a monologue. Up the AC, saves, etc, and start from the top.

If you don't know the rule, you can always say, "let's do this for now" or "does anyone know?" Both are fine. You don't need to stop to figure it out. Whatever you do is the right way, as long as the players are down with it. It's collectively your game.
