Ours is the era of inadequate AI alignment theory. Any other facts about this era are relatively unimportant, but sometimes I tweet about them anyway.

I would not have predicted *anything* about this graph except maybe the British part.https://twitter.com/page_eco/status/986246602376425472?s=19 …

Experiment about honesty in 15 countries: online participants asked to flip a coin, report the result & receive $3-5 if it's "head". Who resisted temptation? Every country reports more than 50% heads. British were the most honest, reporting 52%. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S016726811630052X … pic.twitter.com/sturaAoNNJ

Any normalization to average income in the country? $3-$5 may be worth more to some than others.

Just said this to my father. May not be entirely fair to the Chinese to label them more dishonest when all factors are considered.

Interesting, but n~=100/country, (OK,) online sample. I'd think several things *might be* more important here than the country, like heterogeneity between the panel structures, and the quota sample mix - each differs per country, but is not a country effect. cc @page_eco

I wonder what kind of impression the study gave of *who* the subject was cheating. If an Asian researcher did the study would Brits be more likely to cheat than against someone from their own country?

seems the less grave circumstances are, the more people gather toward honesty. protestants generally are the least rigid of the yahwist faiths, so that makes sense i guess. south africa is an issue. there are few internet users in africa so only upper class would take part
