Don't think these are comparable. Participants in Derren Brown shows are specifically selected for being "suggestible" (≈"willing to play along"). Not true for AI-Box participants.

AI-Box participants were explicitly selected for believing that not even a genuine superintelligence could persuade them to let an AI out of the box.
-
I think that’s his point? He’s saying yours is more impressive for that reason, since Derren Brown’s subjects are willing to play along.
-
"Not even a superintelligence can persuade me to let it out of the box" is very false, so AIB participants were selected to have a very false belief (albeit selecting for this mistake is realistic w/r/t any real-world implementation).

Mmmm. Makes sense.

Also, it is generally a bad idea to believe what Derren Brown says about what's psychologically possible. Most of what he does is better explained by standard magic tricks & clever editing; he can't do on stage what he does on TV.

Remember than Derren Brown is an illusionist, not a mentalist. In the past, people believed in magic, so magicians used illusions to pretend they were doing magic. Now people believe in mentalism, so mentalists use illusions to pretend they're doing mentalism. It's just as fake.

Just cognitively flawed biological automata figuring stumbling about, trying to understand themselves...

Of course it’s for entertainment - it was released to the public. The experiment is fascinating and possibly it is good public exposure to see the suggestibility index (GSS) at play and where one might register.
