What makes you qualified to have an opinion about gun control? A) Knowing the difference between a magazine and a clip, and bump stocks versus full automatic weapons. B) Ability to assemble and disassemble handguns and rifles. C) If I might get shot, I get to have an opinion.

Any expertise comes with bias, and democracy (as opposed to technocracy) provides a trade-off between them. I'm not claiming there's no virtue in subject matter knowledge, but democracy fails if only knowledgeable supporters of a policy are considered qualified to have opinions.
-
And as
@cosmosPixelado alluded to, the specific types of expertise being requested are limited to those knowledgeable about the mechanics of gun usage, not knowledge of the policy issues involved. See my discussion with@asglidden here:https://twitter.com/davidmanheim/status/968647238581981185 …

Being well-informed about how to shoot a gun, or being well-informed about the incidence rate of people getting shot?
-
Mostly the second, but also knowledgeable about the role that guns have played in more recent revolutions and social upheavals. I'm not knowledgeable about it, but I've consistently advocated for well-informed experts and I'm not about to suddenly switch off that stance.
-
If you think that only experts should talk about CO2 in the atmosphere and then suddenly you're proud of not knowing what a bump stock is, you never did have a systematic preference for knowledge, just for your side.
-
I don't think only experts should talk about atmospheric CO2 - I fully expect everyone to have (indirect) preferences about it. And I agree that we need to defer to experts when transforming those preferences into specific policy.

Seems to me you don't need too many bits of information to ask for a repeal of the 2A, tho. Mastery of trivia about weapons should not gatekeep people about asking about gun control.
