Systems like this are used in other countries. I don't see much evidence of improved outcomes in such jurisdictions.

Of course. Because it's a foolish hope to hope that a utterly broken system can "fix itself." US politics, EU polarization, the world... new ingredient is needed to accelarate change, otherwise it's not happening.

Reforms along this line are on the way in multiple places. Maine literally just passed ranked choice voting by referendum in 2016.

Maine voted to implement ranked voting, and it was ruled unconstitutional in the state. I was viscerally angry.
