I think there needs to be a space to discuss AI alignment (eg internet forum, conferences, etc) that *isn't* either an EA space or LW-style rationality space

My prediction: you're going to find that those other people can't think, especially if you keep out any disciplines of sanity who could call them on the reasoning errors.

Purely by dint of the fact that most people in the world are not part of these communities your prior should be that this is wildly wrong.

Most of the people in the world who can still think are not in any one community. Sometimes they even find one other person like themselves, who also read Richard Feynman as a kid and learned the right things.
I just don't know where else you'd find three of them in a group.
It exists in plenty of places, from academia to finance to industry to consulting to bumming around the world, from Lagos to Paris to Sydney.
Personally I read Feynman I a local library in Perumbavoor, Kerala, India.

I know a pre-EA-era non-English community of these via online gaming. They became a "decoupling reservoir" due to caring deeply about others--noticing that internal biases to be righteous re latest morality fad isn't actually helping anyone. I wish EA learn behaviour from them.
