Keep in mind, it has to be a *short story* idea. Premises for open-ended novel series are easy; those just require a beginning. An idea for a novel needs both a beginning and an ending. An idea for a short story needs them to be separated by only a small amount of development.

A failing apprentice magician is summoned by a prophecy to a world with only one school of magic, known to the people of that world as fizikus, based on the new and exciting premise that all magic is tiny waves of mana that follow precise mathematical rules.
-
They create an elaborate plan to exploit this and quickly become the most powerful fizikusist in this new world, using obvious insights that everyone missed. It fails on the first step.

Your idea of precisely bound demons seemed very interesting, I'd like to see your take on it.

I tried writing that and gave up after a couple of false starts. Also, it has to be a *short story* idea; that was a long story idea. Short story ideas are harder.
