Next stop for : Rome, for the big ‘bake-out’! #RosalindFranklin will sit in a vacuum chamber at 35°C for two weeks ♨️. Why? To clean the rover as much as possible from #Earth organic molecules so they don’t interfere with the search for life measurements on #Mars.

#RosalindFranklin’s drill works on rotation. A series of tools and extension rods are fitted to form a ‘drill string’ and can reach the full 2m length.
The drill can penetrate the ground at 60 rotations per minute, depending on the consistency of the soil.

#RosalindFranklin’s twin drilled into a well filled with a variety of rocks and soil layers in the premises. The first sample had shape of a pellet of about 1 cm in diameter. The drill retains the sample with a shutter that prevents it from dropping out.
