The re-issue...the original reboot/remake...only cheaper. Between now and October, E.T., JAWS, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and AVATAR will be re-released in theaters, raising the question--is it actually still 2020? How many will you see on the big screen?

For those keeping track... THE BLACK PHONE has rang up $148M worldwide on an $18M budget. How about that Joe Hill dark universe? Plenty more 20th Century ghosts to unleash.

TOP 5 DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE 1. BULLET TRAIN ($30M) 2. DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS ($11M) 3. NOPE ($8M) 4. THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER ($7.6M) 5. MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU ($7.1M) TOP GUN 2 ($7M) finally exits the Top 5 (for now) but will never leave the Top 5 in the hearts of moviegoers.

Finally...some good news for WB. DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS saw a -51% drop its 2nd box office adventure--$11.2M, $45M total. The good news is...it wasn't pulled from theaters.

The Mighty Thor is on the brink of joining the $700M Club worldwide--$316M domestic, $383M int'l. LOVE AND THUNDER officially passed RAGNAROK ($315M) domestically, making it the highest grossing entry in the franchise stateside.

Oh, there's a big, new action flick in theaters that's a real diesel, you say? Ok. Sure. Bring it. Despite direct competition, TOP GUN: MAVERICK slid just -16% in its 11th weekend in theaters --$7M, $662M total. This just doesn't happen, folks.

We got bodies, yes we do...we got bodies, how 'bout you? A24's BODIES BODIES BODIES dropped exclusively in NY & LA and totally slayed it--$226k in 6 venues, $37k per. The horror pic expands into 1,200+ theaters next weekend.

Can it hit $100M domestic? Odds are def against it. Most films that open with $30M usually are steeped in comedy, and most aren't R-rated. THE LOST CITY did it earlier this year, with the same players. Time will tell. Heck, even TRAINWRECK opened with $30M on its way to $110M.

“We need more comedy flicks in theaters!” Laughter. Guffaws. Lol. Universal’s EASTER SUNDAY drops with just $5M this weekend—the lowest debut for a wide release from a major studio (that wasn’t day-and-date) this entire summer. Welcome to August, folks.

While that’s certainly on the low-end for Sony’s $90M production—plus splashy, summer P/A spend—the R-rated actioner will have ALL OF AUGUST to strengthen its load, as this month is a ghost town in terms of big-time popcorn pics.

Iceman, dead ahead! TOP GUN: MAVERICK has sunk TITANIC—will become the #7 highest-grossing film of all time. With $6.6M (-21%) this weekend, and $662M domestic through Sunday, Paramount’s Cruise missile hit James Cameron’s magnum opus which topped out with $659M.

Never forget. It was one year ago this weekend that THE SUICIDE SQUAD debuted with $107M less than SUICIDE SQUAD. Where have we been? What have we learned? What is our 10-year plan?

PREY spoiler alert. Keep scrolling if you haven't seen it. PREY is a great return to the roots of this franchise, no question, but in terms of overall mythology...does the Predator ever win? How does this species survive? They must have a better record against non-humans.

What's that smell? It's like...finding a hard-boiled Easter egg in August--never a good thing. Universal's EASTER SUNDAY uncovered just $500k in previews last night and looks to debut in the mid-single digits.

ONCE UPON A TIME went on to tell a box office tale of $142M domestic, $374M worldwide--facing much more formidable competition than BT will--HOBBS & SHAW, SCARY STORIES, GOOD BOYS, ANGEL HAS FALLEN. No excuses if BT doesn't hold.

Brad Pitt's BULLET TRAIN left the station with $4.6M yesterday--solid start, but will it have long-haul playability as summer's last blockbuster? Best compare is QT's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, also late summer, R-rated which scored $5.8M in previews, $41M debut.
