I've long since lost faith in pretty much all of the social sciences. It's not science as much as opposition research for a "progressive" world view, and it's full of selection/confirmation bias. It's also a never-ending replication crisis.

Yes, I don't blame you at all. I am a social scientist, and I feel this way. I just hope we (social scientists) get our shit together and refuse to commit collective suicide for an ideology.

To be fair, Nichols acknowledges this in his book as a contributing factor. But really just enough so he can say he didn’t ignore it.

I should add that I wasn't talking about Nichols book because I haven't read it (although I have heard several interviews with him).

The real problem with the inability of many experts to draw meaningful distinctions between things that are irrefutably proven and things that are true only on the balance of probabilities is the way it has fed the anti-vaxx cause. [1]

Most people cannot tell the difference between ‘science says red wine makes you live longer/gives you cancer’ and ‘science says vaccinate your children’, so one is substituted for the other. [2]
