How interesting. Man suggests men may be biologically unsuited to housework. I'd love to see the rigorous data behind this. In the meantime, any man coming to me with this excuse will be handed a mop.https://twitter.com/sapinker/status/1124690396590825474 …

This is possibly the most uncharitable interpretation I’ve encountered, which is impressive. The obvious point is that men tolerate filth more, on average, than women. It’s a widely replicated effect and it’s easily available with a Google search https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/4281/e18ff8e37bbe4b13ea4923712b078d9e579d.pdf …

It’s a shame that people are so afraid of scientific research being oversimplified or misconstrued for nefarious purposes that they deny the validity of said research altogether. Out of fear that nuance will be lost, we lose nuance.

Yes! Also, it's alarming that a "scientific journalist" couldn't even be bothered to do a two minute search of the literature before impugning Pinker's character.

The pissed-off-ness takes over. It’s strange to me that a science journo would be so cynical about Pinker’s perspective, too! Makes me think she isn’t really familiar with his work, which seems unlikely.

I think she's either horrifically blinkered by her ideology or morally grandstanding--or, I guess, a combination. She's writing a book on race science, I guess. Should be a lucid and fair account of the literature 😃

I read a summary and in the first few sentences they are already claiming Murray said black people are genetically inferior and that we should understand race as a "social construct" (in the sense of not being real).

How stupid do you have to be to go from Pinker saying "Blame societal expectations? No it must be biological to fit my narrative!" to "This thing that is easily explained by societal explanations is what Pinker is referring to"?
