The definition of radioactivity is that it goes away... that's exactly what half-life is.
-
Of course. I used hyperbole. Bc, that half-life doesn’t make a big difference, given our avg life span.
-
Well the shorter the half-life, the more dangerous the waste product. If we reprocess (recycle) nuclear fuel in Gen-IV reactors, then we are left with only the fission products with short half-lives, and they last only about 300 years before they're as safe as natural ore.
-
And what we do with that waste is we vitrify it in glass rods after that so it can't be a chemical contaminant either.

"When complete." Meaning years from now and billions over budget. Built on the backs of the working poor through massive amounts of corporate welfare. Hilarious, if it were not so denialist and tone deaf. Nuclear is and has been dead. The future is renewable.
-
Yes it is unfortunate but a standardized build program can fix that, we just need to push to put the industry back on track. And to be fair, the cost overruns have mostly been eaten by Southern and its Shareholders, unlike VC Summer.

When complete, Vogtle's advanced reactors are expected to generate more than 17 million megawatt-hours of clean electricity, enough to power 1.6 million average American homes and prevent up to 10 million metric tons of CO2 annually.
