        Rome collapsed for all the natural reasons: overexpansion, gluttonous leadership, moral decay. The church preserved the legal and literary culture and merged it with strict morality of monotheism.

        northern europe didn’t have the agricultural techniques to support a large population until the agricultural revolution, as soon as they had that they surpassed southern european civilization. Parts of africa had christianity long before most of europe

        I think the admixture of Neanderthal DNA (present in Europeans but not sub-saharan Africans) and adaptation to winter survival were more significant.
