Nugent sits on the NRA's board, I heard. NRA's realized the paid shills can't cut it, so they're wheeling out the 'big guns'. This is the sort of thing that happens on the battlefield in the last moments before defeat, when the generals themselves have to start shooting.

He's not really what I'd consider a big gun. He's a nobody, at this point. Nothing he says or does is going to stop him from getting a paycheck. Nobody else is going to lose any money if he speaks out. He's free to insult without consequence.
