Thanks to my friends on Twitter for your forbearance & help as I try to call attention to my new book. It’s always challenging to make sure people even know you have a book out, especially now. I so appreciate your generosity with retweets & kind comments.

to Alice Mayhew - legendary editor of at Simon & Schuster who I had the great honor of working with on Washington’s Farewell & my upcoming Lincoln book. From All the Presidents Men, Garry Wills & Doris Kearns Goodwin, Alice guided so many beloved books. She will be missed.

  7. Alice Mayhew RIP I am deeply sad over the death this morning of one of the greatest editors in the history of American publishing. I’ll always be inspired by her & I’m one of so many who owe her a profound debt. It was a privilege to have her as an editor & even more as a friend.

A completely sincere thought: Thousands of totally well-meaning people spent a year of their lives working for candidates and their reward was being part of a historic debacle, because the state party fumbled an app. It’s infuriating.

It makes little sense, either substantively or politically, for progressives and moderates to disown the legacies of Clinton and Obama, writes . "They both chipped away at the Reagan consensus even as they lived within it."

It's a sign of how crazy the news cycle is right now that the United States three days ago barred immigration from the largest economy in Africa--a quarter of the continent's population is now barred from the US--and almost nobody is talking about it.

  13. Re-upping thanks to Twitter friends for your response to my book & retweets. A last burst of preorders before pub day would be really helpful. I’m making the case that whole anti- coalition has to work together. We can’t afford the alternative. Thx!

“The Republican-led Senate has sent a very clear message: President can get away with anything. Now, only the voters can stop him — and no one is more aware of this than Iowa Democrats.” From my column, below:

Post-, some Dem contention is inevitable. But the divides between progressives & moderates are far less important than their shared opposition to & a right-wing that seeks to undo our nation’s advances since the New Deal. My ⁦Post essay:

As we get ready for tonight's caucuses and ponder the ideological divisions they highlight, thanks to for this thorough and thoughtful essay on the history of true progressive change - and the need for unity on the left.

"The intellectual collapse of the voter fraud myth has done little to slow down the pace of laws, passed almost exclusively in GOP states, that make it harder to register and vote." notes that if anything, voter suppression is getting worse:

Trump’s Senate GOP subordinates — the 51 —sent a signal. Ours will be a government where the strongest rebuke to a lawless president will be: Could you please, pretty please, possibly consider not doing something like that again? My column
