    An alternative view to ’s about Barr. Scrolling through your Twitter feed can be disconcerting, but it can also preview debates to come.

    There’s a lot of speculation that Barr left early so that he could avoid presiding over a mass of pardons or other legal horrors. This suggests that Barr has a vestigial sense of ethics, which seems like a reach.

    Yes, this seems to be a very plausible theory. We will know soon.

    Many people regard AG Barr’s resignation, reportedly negotiated by White House counsel Pat Cippolone, as a relief. But it’s probably the best sign that the next five weeks will bring a barrage of pardon controversies that Barr didn’t want to be near.

    It was right and necessary for to take on the outrageous, anti-democratic lawsuit filed by Texas and to push back against ’s lies about the election. A good sign that Biden will fight back when necessary. But sad for our country that Trump made it necessary.

    God bless Mark Shields. A warm & generous soul who never forgot, after all his years in DC, to look at politics from the precinct up rather than from the top down. He said there were 2 kinds of people in politics, heretic hunters & convert seekers. He was always in the 2d camp!

    After more than 3 decades of brilliant, wise and humorous political commentary, the incomparable Mark Shields will step back after Dec 18 to be occasional contributor on . All of us, especially & I, will miss him terribly every Friday night. Mark, we❤️U
