While I OBVIOUSLY disapprove of creating spreadsheets & ranking women's worth based on looks etc... I ❤️this Bad luck to the Countess of Barrymore, who scored just '1' for beauty

Just want to bring this tiny, lairy St John the Baptist to your attention (1770s). He looks like he's breaking out into a Bon Jovi banger

Delightful glimpse at an 18th-century slanging match. Let's hope the appropriately-named Elizabeth Anger gave as good as she got 🗣️

HOW have I ONLY JUST come across this Romantic London mapping project of the Harris's List of 1788? An amazing resource locating the given addresses for the book's featured 'celebrated Ladies now on the Town' in 18th-century London:

Anna Seward (1742-1809) 🌿🔎📜 on ladies being ‘protected’ from Linnaeus' sexual system of plant classification: ‘It can only be unfit for the perusal of females as still believe the legend of their nursery that children are dug out of a parsley-bed.’

These papers have alerted me to a new C19th person of note: Reverend John Jea, who escaped slavery in America to become a successful preacher Our diarist is moved by his sermon in West Wycombe in ?1816 (around the time he married local woman Jemima Davis, his 4th wife)

My favourite so far: a brief autobiography in the form of "communications" conveyed by the ghost of her grandmother to a medium (c1820s). In it she writes of a mysterious occult-meddling mother & a young woman growing up "within the entire dominion of her enemies" 😱

Her papers so far have included commentaries on Hebrew texts, essays on Napoleon & the state of the Russian army, poetry in numerous languages, & a bit of maths just for fun

Ok so within five minutes I have learned that this woman was far too intelligent for me to even understand what half of her papers are even about 👍

I had a night off & chose to spend it with big hair, dancing about to Bon Jovi. Despite today's headache I have no regrets
