    A6 The most surprising thing about freelance editing for me was the profit margins... I had almost no expenses or fixed costs at the start. But it costs 💰 to scale up. If I had it to do again, I'd keep fixed costs/expenses as low as possible for as long as possible.

    A6: Piggybacking here. That and how many people assume you are available for anything because you are self-employed. I would have (a) built a website right away, (b) established known “office hours,” and (c) called myself a business owner instead of a freelance editor. *

    Q6 My biggest surprise has been how word of mouth keeps on working. Much of my current business ultimately stems from people connected with my first recent copyediting project in 2012.
