🔹was 55/100,000 person-years (py) for patients who completed
🔸318/100,000 py for those who interrupted treatment
For both, reactivation risk was highest in the first 5 years after treatment

One person with active, untreated #TB can spread the disease to 10-15 people in one year. As resources are diverted to fight #COVID19, more of these “missing” people go undetected and untreated. Unacceptable! We must #FightForWhatCounts to #LeaveNoOneBehind.

Despite the efforts made & the availability of new drugs & treatments, the burden in relation to multi-drug (rifampicin-resistant) (MDR/RR) TB and TB/HIV remains considerable, underlining the need to introduce more innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment.

Of cases notified in 19' with a treatment outcome reported in 20', 71.8% were treated successfully in the EU/EEA & 76.5% in the WHO Euro Region.
The treatment success rate in the region remains below the respective regional targets of 85% for new and relapse cases.

In 2020, over 33k cases were reported in the EU/EEA and 160K notifications in the European Region.
Although the rates in most countries have been 📉 over the last 5 years, the 24% drop in notifications between 2019 & 2020 represents an interruption of the ⬇️ trend.

In 2020, there were an estimated 21 000 #Tuberculosis deaths in the region.
For the first time in over two decades, the number of TB deaths increased because of delay in, or lack of TB diagnosis due to disruptions to TB services.

Despite universal access to quality-assured anti-TB drugs, #treatment outcomes in the Region remain suboptimal.
Only 76.5% of all #TB cases notified in the Region in 2018 reported as having completed their treatment successfully in 2019.
