It's August 19. Summer is winding down, kids are heading back to school (or will be soon), and you might be trying to fit in one last trip to the beach before fall... It's the perfect time to check out the series and I have been working on:

NASA officials say SpaceX will complete construction of the Crew Dragon capsule for its first operational mission "3 months earlier than originally planned," according to the GAO, citing manufacturing efficiencies and SpaceX modifying facilities and bringing in more resources.

In its more than 16 years running, Spitzer Space Telescope left its mark on astronomy. Dazzling.

They’re being called the world’s first “living robots.” But what, exactly, does that mean? I dig into thorny questions about life in my latest article:

One of the marvels of space exploration is that it forces people to think beyond what they can observe themselves. The Spitzer Space Telescope enabled astronomers to literally see beyond the visible.

The NSF's Inouye Solar Telescope provides unprecedented close-ups of the sun’s surface, but ultimately it will measure the sun’s corona – no total solar eclipse required. 😎 More:

Today is the day. 📆 After 16 years of observing our cold, dark, and dusty galaxy 🌌, we're saying goodbye to our Great Observatory 🛰️. We'll share updates as events unfold in Mission Control.

Today NASA bids adieu to one of its champions. Its name isn't as famous as, say, Hubble or Kepler, but without Spitzer Space Telescope's 16 years of observation, we wouldn't know nearly as much about the universe. My story:

Happening now: The safe mode command has been sent to Spitzer. It takes about 15 minutes for the command to reach the telescope.

Truly the most metal science story: Scientists dropped three alligator carcasses to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico to see what would eat them. One was covered in giant ancient isopods. Another disappeared completely, leaving a severed rope and drag marks
