Most developers are heavily dependent on GUI-based tooling, and the logic is deterministic.
Data is managed via spreadmart, SQLServer, or Postgres; maybe a data warehouse.
Machine learning frameworks are built, maintained, & used by such a tiny part of the tech world, still.

"AI JOBS ARE TAKING OVER TECH" is really just a bad improv where the NeurIPS contingent says "so here we are on the moon," and the rest of the world goes "no we're not"

...all that being said: "user experience and product development for highly specialized numerical tools" is a career I never could have imagined highly fulfilling, with huge impact (current and potential) and I'm loving every dang minute of it

Without COBOL all banks would stop. I'd still prefer COBOL and FORTRAN any day of the week over all this JS nonsense.

Brazilian PyCon (Python Brasil) had a wonderful talk about FORTRAN by
@melissawm, it is still *very much* in use for scientific computation. Parts of SciPy are written in it. There was a F2Py demo too if I remember correctly... - Još 5 drugih odgovora
