I've got a slightly nicer work around. Keep things the way they are but instead have a button inside the notification menu that lets you decide if the bell is automatically pressed whenever you sub to someone. That way people can pick ALL notifications or Some notifications.

Heck have it be something you can set when you first log in/create an account and have access to in several locations. Then leave the bell button in place so that people with the setting can turn on can disable certain channels and others can do the opposite. Such a hard solution
