PSA - Please use people first language when referring to incarcerated or formerly incarcerated people. The words inmate, convict, etc. are all derogatory & stigmatizing. People in prison are people. Language structures thought; speak different to think different.

On Sunday, published a story with the headline "Free To Rape" about a young man they said had been charged with attempted rape. Only he hadn't been charged with any sex offense - he was arrested for allegedly stealing $120 from a laundromat.

I’m currently witnessing the most terrifying scene I’ve ever experienced in Albany: dozens of cops calling for rollbacks alongside white nationalists and white supremacists and criminalization-oriented Republicans.

Think about this: — Iowa is 90.7% white — Iowa is now the only state with a lifetime voting ban for people with a felony conviction — Black people make up 4% of Iowa's population but 26% of its prison population How is this representative of our electorate?

BC OF THE HIGH RATES OF HOMELESSNESS, BC OF THE LACK OF HOUSING etc etc. It ain’t cause 14 year olds just wake up and commit crimes. Upwards of up to 90% of the crime in Chicago happens in 5-6 neighborhoods and they are the ones void of the most resources.

The Mayor of NYC, the NYPD and the State GOP are really going to spend the entirety of Black History Month trying to put more Black people in jail.

For David, bail reform meant being home to witness the birth of his daughter. Through all the ups & downs of his case, reform meant all the difference for him in getting to hold his new daughter the hospital and being there for his family for a moment they’ll never get back.

White supremacists are at the very centre of the fear-mongering campaign against New York's new bail law. Bail reform is a step towards dismantling a racist criminal legal system and it's working. No rollbacks, no backsliding.

FEARMONGERING LIE: This man could have remained detained under new bail law. But so desperate to sensationalize, they mislead. He was jailed for 2 felonies. Under the new law, bail could have remained on his first case based on his rearrest. Nothing to do w/ reform.

My bill S7182 passed today in the Senate. This will ensure that mortality reports on incarcerated individuals are as clear as possible with only some redactions made for privacy concerns, allowing for a more transparent & critical review of that individual’s death.

Important piece laying out the problems thousands of NYer's deal with while on parole supervision. The system is deeply broken & would fix it. Pass Less Is More, and of incarceration!

For a month, has cherry-picked cases of Black & Brown people accused of crime to mislead & blame on bail reform. But when a cop is released on felony assault then violating a protective order: Silence. It’s not about reform for them. It’s racism.

From '14 to '18, NYC's jail pop dropped by 27% — but the # of people jailed for technical parole violations rose “Parole in this state is punitive. The #1 function is to send you back to prison," says The Act would address that

My Trump-loving primary opponent finally submitted his late filing. It showed that ~15% of his funds came from a single donation from RSA’s political action committee. That’s the Rent Stabilization Association: The same slumlords who filed a lawsuit against the new rent laws.

These takes on Trump banning Nigerians are bad. You don't have to defend Nigerians by calling them intelligent and smart. That's some model minority stereotypical bullshit. How about he shouldn't ban Nigerians because it's inhumane and poses a contradiction to what the USA is?
