But it’s not a business, not private, and doesn’t have the authority. And what authority it does have ultimately comes from the legislature.

The authority should be from the citizens, and PubEd is big biz. They may not be a Corp but ISDs can still set policies like dress codes, to include mask, uniforms, whatever. We as citizens have a right not to attend, attend somewhere else or fire those responsible for bad policy

Try finding a dress code policy that has been litigated and the school district won. And public schools can’t force students to wear uniforms for general attendance, and even if they could, a mask is not a uniform.

I was an ISD trustee for a few years. Masks are not uniforms.

Agree but you can’t see how a board would work that kind of language in? Abbott has given the ISDs the ability to make their own policies in how to deal with this virus. I hate govt mandates as much as you, I don’t think these measures are out of line. People still have a choice

No, most people do not have a choice, and Governor Santa Abbott doesn’t have the power to give ISDs powers not given to them by the legislature.

Most districts have both options of in person or virtual right now. There’s always a choice

Most districts donor have virtual as an option. The majority of school districts are small and rural without the infrastructure needed. Ours is one.

I’d actually like to see those numbers. Around East Texas, there are plenty doing it

There’s over 5 million K-12 students in TX. Go west or south and the options begin to disappear. We are within 60 miles of Houston and don’t have the sevices available, much less the funding, to offer virtual.
