Does anyone else find it strange that a parade with a standing Army was used to celebrate a war of independence which was fought and won by a people who were absolutely against the creation of a standing Army?
The Constitution did not create a monolithic nation State; it created a union of nation States. And the single most dominant concern among all the State ratifying conventions was how to avoid a standing Army. The founding generation would likely be shocked by this display.
