A question.. If you can’t drink alcohol in a car and you can’t walk around the city with alcohol, why can you drink while on a boat?

I also have a question: why is it illegal to "drink & drive" while sober? Why can't a 250Lb grown ass man, who just got off a 10 hr shift of hard labor, have a beer on the drive home w/out risking his life, & the lives of his family, being utterly destroyed if he is pulled over?

I don’t think we should drink or be tired when driving.. or texting.. I don’t know what affect one drink has on someone driving

One beer to a 250 lb man is meaningless. It's just government nonsense.

Because then you get a lot of subjectivity into the law. Who's to say it's your first beer? Or first drink? What if you have unusually high or low tolerance to alcohol? You can't write a law that say this is illegal except for folks who can hold their liquor.

Who's to say anything - about anything - an adult does that has no impact on another human being? Well, those in elected offices can, and do. That's how we get a law that says an adult cannot drink a beer and drive while sober.

While, in principle, I have no issues with a rational sober adult having an open beer in his hand when driving. Unfortunately, not all actors are rational. Someone has to deal with the externalities. Saying the drinker takes responsibility for his behavior is small comfort 1/

to innocent bystanders killed or permanently crippled. Especially when the driver is killed/incapacitated and there is no recourse.

Unfortunately this rationale can be applied to a million different things and though they haven’t restricted them all yet, the government continues to try to control whatever they can. It’s not even remotely a reasonable undertaking.

This is, and will always be, the big dilemma. On one hand, governments grow to fill whatever niche they can. On the other hand, people just aren't rational enough to be left to their own devices in close quarters. I'd be a total AnCap if it wasn't a completely utopian philosophy.

“People just aren’t rational enough...”. said every power-hungry enlightened academic, judge, legislator, president, king, emperor, tyrant, despot, and dictator, in history. Liberty. Nobody said it was pain free
