The problem with our political environment today... please discuss how in Texas we had to choose who should help set our fiscal policy for the next generation between two men who spent $100M fighting over a job that pays $174k a year!

The problem starts w/ your question. The men you speak of were running for an office that, according to the Constitution, should have little influence on "fiscal policy" for ANY generation. It's a glorified gopher between the State legislature & the federal, but I digress. ;)

Dual? Federalism is the system chosen by the framers in which the States would retain all expansive power, save the limited few authorities they delegated (loaned) to the federal.

Except that a State can retake the limited powers it delegated to the federal if that be the will of it's citizens. The federal cannot legally take ANY power from a State. The "lane" the federal is in is still owned by the States.

The 17th was an abomination for many reasons. It destroyed the federal system as we know it. It replaced the bicameral system with a single parliamentary system in which everyone is popularly elected with the only difference being the length of terms.
