Congress doesn’t have the authority to remove an amendment; that would require the States to approve. As far as “lay and collect taxes” the types of taxes on which they can collect are specified and a national sales tax is not one of them.

Understood, and they are wrong.

We have national sales tax now on fuel. There is no limit on excise (sales) taxes in the Constitution

Again, an excise tax is applied to a specific item or activity, but good luck with that.

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but Article 1 Section 8 says “The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises...”. It does not specify what kind of taxes my be laid or collected. Hence, Congress can lay and collect a national sales tax.

It’s the power to lay and collect taxes followed by the list. If that were not a specific list, there would’ve been no need for the 16th amendment. They could have just taxed incomes simply because they wanted to.

I believe you’re wrong. Look at the way they are listed, different items separated by commas. Taxes are a separate item from duties, imposts and excises.
