In 2002, I served on the PhD committee of Aamod Khandekar, a student of Bob McEliece. Aamod's thesis described Irregular Repeat-Accumulate (IRA) codes, with improved encoding efficiency compared to previous LDPC codes. We specifically show 2D quantum Hall physics in a single photonic cavity. This is enabled by harnessing various intrinsic properties of light such as its color (frequency) and direction of propagation (pseudo-spin).
