    Left friends: I know things don’t look great with the Dem ticket, and lots of mayors make “blue no matter who” feel hollow recently, but unless there’s a revolution before the election then you really need to vote. If you actually care about people and harm reduction: vote.

    During the Obama admin, folks thought we’d have a 60 Dem majority for a while. It lasted 4 months. Dems are burning precious time & impact negotiating w/GOP who won’t even vote for a Jan 6 commission. McConnell’s plan is to run out the clock. It’s a hustle. We need to move now.

    Many of the most powerful ppl in our society are criminals by definition. A sitting congressman is being investigated for human sex trafficking. Many elected officials are rapists & thieves. But they experience less policing than someone who is criminalized b/c they’re homeless.

    One of the key things for "progressive" white folks to understand who are scandalized/resistant to the idea of police abolition is that...we white people effectively *already live* with police abolition. This was a good teaching in-road for me last summer with my congregation.

    White people, especially wealthy white people, aren’t subjected to policing. That’s why they engage in all sorts of flagrant criminal activity without fear of being targeted or killed. That’s what the system of policing is. The inequitable treatment is its defining characteristic

    symptoms are not “quirky” and “cute.” i think about the things i need to do constantly. i sit there, wishing for myself to gather the strength to do the thing. and i don’t. i feel guiltier each passing day. i know what i need to do. i just can’t get myself to do it.
