3/4 Indeed, this star is the closest known candidate to soon go supernova in astronomical timescales—anytime within the next 100,000 years......pic.twitter.com/3G4K3ATH0c
4/4 If it did occur, it would become the brightest supernova ever observed. In a matter of days, it would become as bright as the full moon, be visible during day time and be bright enough at night to cast shadows on Earth.
It's already happened. The light displays and shockwave haven't reached us yet
It’s ~700 light years away, so not necessarily. It could last 1000+ years yet easily. Watching a star all throughout the supernova process will be very informative though
Damn climate change!
Damn Obama!
Guys it probably already has gone super nova, except we're just looking at a video tape in slow mo.
it's less like slow-mo and more like we rewound a livestream and are now watching it 15 minutes behind the actual live part, except instead of 15 minutes its like 700 years.
I hope this happens in my lifetime
Me too! I wanna see it go boom!
