Giving cults negative connotations is also a relatively new term which mostly started with Waco, etc A "cult" is anything outside of mainstream religions and also WoWs writing of cults is so cartoonishly evil I don't think they have the subtlety people are giving them credit for
I keep wanting to write a long-winded post about why the Kyrian aren't a cult but it's gonna turn out the Archons are all evil all along or whatever and I'm just gonna look like some clown cultist

Negative or not I feel like it barely even qualifies as a religion or a belief system, honestly; from the information we have it's just a... Job. It has some tough requirements so it's not a job for everyone.

I've seen people mention what I think you're talking about and it wasn't prompted by that but it reinforces my opinions for sure. I think the rapid pacing of the Uther cinematic didn't help how people see their system lol

I’ve seen people comparing them to the Jedi, which I think works pretty well. Like it’s maybe a little culty when you don’t look close & could stand some adjustments BUT also wings and cool swords and you don’t HAVE to do it.
