Google wiped the personal phone of Rebecca, one it’s employees who has been targeted for organizing with her co-workers. What kind of digital dystopia do we live in?? Power is so concentrated that the tech monarchy can intervene in our lives in ways we don’t dare imagine.
I was recently a Google employee, and I verified exactly this -- the Device Policy you have to install on your personal phone in order to put "corp" email, calendar, etc. on it allows the company to wipe the *entire* phone, including personal data. 1/2

Full-time employees can request that the company provide them a work-only phone to access "corp" apps. The company pays for the service, too. This is what I did because I will not give my employee that power over my personal device. 2/2

Hold up. Work profile isn’t separate from the personal one? I remember on Android the work profile was containerized, so wiping it out was not affecting the personal data.

The corp and personal accounts are separate, but to be able to log into the corp account on an Android phone you have to install the Device Policy app and give it certain controls over the phone. Device Policy enables the company to wipe the entire phone.

As an Android user (Google Operating System) I used Divide, a lovely app that containerized your phone so your data could not be wiped. Google killed it in 2017 to enable access to ALL user data (CREEPY). APPLE still offers this solution because They respect their users.pic.twitter.com/i57AjXi7JA
