One of my favorite ways to conjure up game ideas is to just chat with other designers about games they found thoughtful, compelling, or just fun. You need to allow yourself to play mentally with the ideas, but when it happens it's magical!

Is there a market for ice-breaker activities? Recently I made something that I wouldn't really call a game, but it's fun and gets people talking to each other and I'm not exactly sure what to do with it. I could make it more gamey but I quite like what it's doing.

Recently I got a bit of attention so I'd like to hear from all of you - What are you working on that you're proud of?

For those newly interested in my game, Stonewall Uprising, be sure to check out 's episode with me recorded in December where we discuss the game, its origins, and more!

Playtesting this game was one of the most emotional experiences I've had in gaming. has designed a really beautiful game, and is going to do a fantastic job of publishing this one.

For me this has to be the ability for players to freely jump in and out of the game. Codenames and Just One rock for this reason.

What makes a game a party game? In other words what does a game need, in your opinion, to be a party game?

I have seen so many tasteless and thoughtless games on Kickstarter about the current pandemic. Do you think it's even possible to make a tasteful & thoughtful game about the situation? Or do we have to wait for it to get more distant first?

Can you think of any board games that are themed around families? Not family-style games, but they are about adults/parents and maybe children as well.

Got something to the table the other day and what a game! Staying safe we kept it to 2 players but I cannot wait to see The Cost with 3 & 4. Outstanding work 👏👏👏

No clue if the game will be any good, but these were way too fun to make!

Sometimes before handing out feedback I will ask the designer those questions so I have a better understanding of what they are looking for. As a playtester it helps give me perspective. As a designer it helps tell me who is really thinking about their feedback deeply.

One note I consistently make when seeing newer designers giving out feedback is trying to design the rest of the game themselves, and ignoring the vision of whoever is working on it. Ask yourself - Why is this game being made and what experience is it supposed to invoke?

When someone self-publishes a game, do they sign a formal contract for the rights of said game with their own company? Should they?
