  2. Boy-oh. How much trouble are the Dems in if Biden is their answer to preventing a cranky septuagenarian socialist getting the party’s nomination?

  3. I for one am very reassured by all the national governments engaging in panicked authoritarian overreactions to coronavirus.

  4. I’m more optimistic the question can be settled. First because Corbynism failed to turn Labour into a social movement. Second because it made more likely its eventual disappearance as a party.

  5. The radical left analysis versus the Reuters analysis. Gosh those mainstream journos have been lulled into a false sense of security!

  6. Look, I think Mark Zuckerberg is letting down American democracy here. He should pre-emptively ban all pro-Sanders material on FB to guarantee that possible Russian interference doesn’t affect the outcome of the primary in any way.

  7. Yes. True polarisation occurs purely within the political sphere. Once social conflict is involved it’s called “the post-war liberal democratic consensus”.

  8. I’ve been back in Australia and watching ABC News. Amazing how the Russia collusion hyperbole in the US is taken as established fact by journos here. Such a lack of critical thinking. 🤦‍♂️

  13. I can imagine Bloomberg getting the nomination in a stitch up at the convention. That would be fitting: a clapped out Democratic establishment’s last gasp, “saving” their party from Sanders by literally selling it off to the highest bidder.

  15. Just to give a sense of what a clapped out husk of a political project Sinn Fein is, consider what kind of long term party activists they allowed to run in the election.

  16. I for one welcome Bloomberg trying to save American progressivism and the institutions of liberal democracy from authoritarian populism by, er, trying to buy the election with his personal billions. Checks and balances FTW!

  17. A compilation of fashionable academic opinion that falsely projects the pathologies of the political world onto the voting public. should know better, but I guess NYT readers love this kind of thing because it makes them feel morally superior even while their side loses.

  20. Today is the worst of days. Can’t believe it. He was the best of people. A lovely, lovely human being. Hilarious. A fabulous story teller. A man of impeccable taste. An inspiration. A friend. A comrade in arms. It’s so hard to imagine our world without him.
