It turns out that the new international mainstream is pretty-much identical to the old. Spend to benefit the economy; ignore welfare and wellbeing. Perhaps Labour should try to change the narrative rather than repeat the mistakes of 2008.

The issue is transmission, Kirstie. Children transmit to their teachers & each other at school, & from there into their homes. Parents, siblings & grandparents are then affected. The NHS is overwhelmed. This is much worse than April. Keeping schools open will cost untold lives.

Devastated to learn that Professor Sir John Hills FBA has died. He was so important to social policy analysis - especially housing, taxation, inequality, poverty and fuel. Too young and too valuable. Final straw.

I’m old enough to remember when the Tories were slightly less of a disaster-shit-show and the Labour centrists said opinion poll results like this were all Corbyn’s fault.

Sums up class educational privilege beautifully. The ones peddling are the working classes initially performing well before the middle classes cruise on by. The elite schooled are the ones on the motorbikes, biding their time to accelerate past everyone when they want.

Boris Johnson is about to agree a deal which will see tariffs put on UK goods when we diverge from EU standards. This footage, from the referendum campaign in 2016, shows he misled Britain. (Location: Dover ferry terminal)
