Possibly the best read of the day. Hilarious! Can’t believe this inadvertent invertebrate blunder.

This is really true. Luna moths (aka Lulus) are amazing. They are spectacular and like many other insects, they deserve more attention. Moths are not drab brown insects as many think. They are colorful and are important in many ways to humans and the world.

It’s true! Butterflies are just another group of colorful day-flying moths. Has been proven scientifically with DNA evidence in numerous studies.

Pics of caterpillars of very charismatic natl purple butterfly of Japan. Cats crawl down tree in winter+live on ground in dead leaves. In spring, crawl up + eat fresh leaves. Parks often remove dead leaves w/leaf blowers. Not good! Kills larvae. Keep parks natural w/o disturbance

New study on insect declines: shows that nearly half of butterfly species in Singapore went extinct in 160 years by human land use and development. Uses historical museum specimen records and lists. Thanks to new PD, Xuankun Li for sharing

The “crocodilian-like” body plan has evolved separately SO MANY times among semiaquatic and aquatic tetrapods! Way before crocs. Here are sketches depicting just a few examples. None of these animals are closely related to crocodilians.
