Sigh...that basically proves the anti-maskers right. Almost no one is wearing tight fitting, n95 style, masks with no gaps. Certainly not for extended periods of time.
-
Even with gaps you are highly protected, you can check in the study.

Why using homemade face masks if disposable masks as well as professionally made cloth face masks are available? At least in Europe, supply shouldn’t be an issue at the moment. Just one example: https://shop.cilander.ch/produkte/schutzmasken-8/community-mask-made-by-ag-cilander-94/2975-schutzmaske-marine-gr-m-frauen-2975 …

yes but how well does the mask work when you put it under your chin and walk by me shouting into your phone

Some newer phones have virus killing abilities right?

Is this for inbound particles or outbound? Community mask quality and wear-skills seem to be low in Germany, but there are a lot of claims of masks "working".
-
Inbound in this study. I agree that the message about how to wear a mask properly has not got through to some people, but I think even suboptimal use is probably still beneficial on a population-level basis.

After reading, I'm still not clear on whether they're testing the efficiency of the mask at filtering particles an infected mask-wearing person exhales (so the person puts out fewer virus particles) or filtering particles a mask-wearing person inhales.
-
They assessed inbound filtering efficiency (i.e., protection for the wearer of the mask).

Masks must be tight-fitting. Gaps markedly reduce effectiveness.
