There are some great examples, like @GOAlearning , that uses an online platform to bring together students from all over the world for true collaboration, authentic curation, self-directed learning, critical thinking, and project-based learning. #edchat

This isn’t indicative of all schools using summit learning. If anything, I’ve been able to encourage MORE collaboration, authentic and deeper learning, opportunities to defend, and connections with kids.

I would have to respectfully disagree. Granted, I’ve only seen it 3x, but that experience is nothing at all like what I’ve seen. It is blended, mastery learning... there are bumps & issues, but every student I’ve talked to (on & off tours) loves it even though it’s challenging.

The school system bought one tool of a well developed model of education. Many of the things you speak to in your books happens in the Summit Public Schools every day. Please don’t confuse a district purchasing a tool with the Summit Public Schools model.

they must speak up and protest because no one is listening to parents. Kansas is not alone. Time to demand printed books and ensure human teachers instead of allowing corporations to use students as lab rats and profit off their data and products.http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/11/summit-education-program-leads-to-brooklyn-student-walkouts.html …

Summit seems to have students do a lot of collaborative projects. But the platform can be used in ways that are less productive. To adopt Summit’s pedagogy would require massive PD.

Something that is not represented in the article which is exceptionally concerning from the counselor perspective is the lack of transferable credit for the year long courses not completed.

Students would lose a year sometimes transferring mid year to the public school from Summit.Per traditional credit hour reqs & the online curriculum that isn’t aligned with Common Core curriculum used in CA students would transfer into a worse position, consider the equity here.
