    As my friend says, it's crucial for manufacturers of vaccines to do all they can to increase production so first doses can get to , older people & others at greatest risk around the world. - if not now, when?

    It is frankly an outrage that the companies making mRNA vaccines are vastly more interested in selling booster doses, the need for which has not yet been proven, to rich countries than ramping up production for the rest of the world.

    The authors put it well: Even if affluent countries prioritize boosters for the vulnerable, 'the degree of additional benefit...is uncertain.' Yet we know 'vaccines could do a huge amount of good for the large number of vulnerable ppl who've not yet received a single dose.'

    The WHO has called for a moratorium on COVID vaccine booster programmes until at least the end of September to prioritise vaccines for low-income countries. There is a powerful argument - but one problem lies in the motivational force of altruism.

    Here are the numbers: SCORE reports only 39 countries produce high-quality cause of death data, 78 produce lower quality and 77 don’t produce any cause of death data. There is a lot of work that needs to be done at speed. (3/4)
