I totally disagree. It’s paternalism. People should be allowed to make their own choices free of government interference. It’s a slippery slope. The best way to change people’s behavior is through education, not financial manipulation.

Then people should be required to pay for their entire healthcare costs. No insurance, no Medicare, no Medicaid. Obviously I don’t think that.. but if we help share the cost, then it’s fair to have rules.

I think addressing the issue of food deserts in areas like Oakland and Los Angeles is a much better way to combat this problem. Also, when you can buy a soda for .99 cents but have to spend up to $2.95 for a bottle of "artisan" water, you have a big problem.

So drink tap water! And provide drinkable water as a basic human right where not yet available.

What happens to personal responsibilities? Educating the public is the way to do it NOT punishing companies. Taxing your way out of every problem is not the solution.

In theory, people should be able to take responsibility for their own nutrition. Unfortunately, in real life we humans are easily manipulated, via nudging, commercials and group behaviour... But of course people also needs education on nutrition and health.
