Just part of the work involved in developing a new early Holocene dataset from the southern North Sea! Alongside these 200+ diatom slides, others have been working on sedimentology, seismics, pollen, XRF, 14C, GIA modelling. A big team effort.

When and were moving house recently, they found my A-level project (2002/03). My career in fluvial hydrology was short lived; but I was clearly over enthusiastic about geoscience even back then! 🌎🌍🌏

I was aboard one of the first ferries to cross the North Sea and arrive in the UK after it left the EU. Here’s a clip from the bridge of the largest ferry in Europe. A huge shoutout to the engineers for making this possible - a lot of kit and cables!

New in : though similar in global temperature change and heat-trapping gas forcing to the last deglaciation and Holocene, the penultimate deglaciation and last interglacial had a wildly different sea-level history. Why?

Our team is feeling a bit down about leaving the tomorrow, but the good news is that, with the ratification and adoption into UK law of the Withdrawal Agreement, at least participation in can continue as normal for our academics.

There needs to be more resource but there also needs to be a huge public education effort to stop people making 999 calls when they really aren’t needed. My OH deals with the ‘rubbish’ more than the life threatening.
