UK car sales used to be 50/50 diesel petrol… Now it's 3/5 petrol, 1/4 diesel and 1/10 other stuff – and changing rapidly (two months ago it was just 1/16 "other")pic.twitter.com/9UoKjGEHWk
Sure, annualised EV sales are still small relative to conventional vehicles. But change can happen fast.pic.twitter.com/DFwms1680A
Will this big uptick in pure EV sales continue or is it down to the backlog in Tesla 3 orders, per tweet below? We'll have to wait and see…https://twitter.com/IainTurner5/status/1169547974374035456 …
Grist to the Tesla 3 bump mill, but there's clearly probably more to it than that alonehttps://twitter.com/colinmckerrache/status/1169548112572145664 …
I suspect total car sales have gone down because people are waiting for a battery vehicle with a sensible price and a reasonable range (200+ miles).
Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro (both with 64 kWh pack) have that range and cost 33k. For a tad shorter (~150mi) you can pick the Zoe for 24k or the older Kona (39 kWh) and the Leaf for 27k-28k. Still few but choice there is. May the EM force be with you!
Tesla bump not withstanding, they are just getting good. Interesting whether they will get better too fast - we were on cusp of e-Golf purchase but now waiting to see what their IDs will be like.
Get the e-Golf. It’s an amazing vehicle. Just drove 5000 km in it to remote Arctic villages, and did fine with socket charging. If you live close to CCS fast chargers, it’s especially relevant.
But as you say Simon, BEV sales still a tiny % of overall sales. Can't see this changing until the UK Govt sees sense & starts rolling out H2 refuellers.
H2 is delusional. It is not efficient as EV and dangerous more than fuel
