(1/4) Today, on Dr. Seuss’s Birthday, Dr. Seuss Enterprises celebrates reading and also our mission of supporting all children and families with messages of hope, inspiration, inclusion, and friendship.  We are committed to action.

(2/4) To that end, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, working with a panel of experts, including educators, reviewed our catalog of titles and made the decision last year to cease publication and licensing of the following titles:

(4/4) These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong.  Ceasing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ catalog represents and supports all communities and families.

It's okay. You're doing your best for helping children to avoid controversial hidden messages and themes from those books. But at least fab favorites like The Cat In The Hat, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears A Who and all the rest are safe. 👍pic.twitter.com/PzYkxXMZJl

Very Disappointed....reading is a CHOICE !!!! One more step to Communist Socialism -- taking this action is true censorship...SHAME ON Dr. Seuss Enterprises 😠

I'm really sorry to hear this. I just re-read McElligot's Pool. It is very hard for me to find what anyone could find offensive about this book. To me it is about a young person seeing unlimited possibilities where the older generation does not. We need more of this.

I believe the decision is based primarily, if not entirely, due to the illustrations, and not necessarily the text of the story.

@DrSeuss take a lesson from @disneyplus, maybe add an advisory as the preface. Inspire children and parents to discuss and learn from the past, for an inclusive future. Avoiding the past is not the answer, lessons matter, stories matter, choice matters.https://storiesmatter.thewaltdisneycompany.com/

I recently gave my great-niece a copy of McElligot's Pool, because it was a favorite of my daughter. While themes in older literature can become dated, censorship is not the answer. Even if it is self imposed.

This is absolutely bonkers. Times were different then and things change, but to erase literature because someone’s feelings were hurt and bowing to political correctness is wrong. Such a cop-out and am disappointed by this move. Dr. Seuss himself would never approve of this shame
