I agree with his thesis. We need to move machines off the planet so biology can have more of the planet, and we are now in the process of doing so.

I’m excited to be part of this study (though I haven’t finished my part of it yet, refining the specific design choices via physics-based computer modeling). Modeling so far confirms this finding.

An 1847 astro textbook says, "Jupiter has four moons. They have received the names, in the order of their distance from the planet, of Hebe, Ganymede, Themis and Metis. These names are, however, but little used." No kidding. Now we call them Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.

Why "Uranus"? An 1847 textbook: "The planet Herschel [!!] was discovered in the year 1781, by Sir W. Herschel [who] gave it the name of Georgium Sidus [!!!]...Others named it Uranus, as Uranus was the father of Saturn, Saturn the father of Jupiter, Jupiter the father of Mars."

Dagnabbit. Yep, the quote I was transcribing says 1781. My fingers preferred other keys on the keyboard, apparently.

is my alma mater; I’ll always love them first. is my grad school and where I am faculty, and their undefeated season is at stake. I wish they weren’t playing each other! 😖

Outstanding essay on humanity changing the planet, but from a cosmic perspective. This is why I write about our need to put industry in space, now.

It's been a weird but productive week. Today I'm working out of a McDonalds. We just submitted 2 papers to a conference (3D printing buildings on Mars; Developing asteroid regolith simulants).

We’re at School of Rock. Sweet seats four rows down from the ceiling. I feel sorry for people in the top three rows.

Couldn't get into the office since my outside key card broke, so I'm running computer simulations in a coffee shop. (The office would be lonely, anyway.) Just plotted the thermal conductivity of icy soil at the Moon's south pole. Looks good for extracting water as a resource!

I think this is my favorite shot of the launch. What a year. Saw the eclipse & now this, fantastic!

Fluid dynamics. The recent pics of Jupiter and this. Ya gotta love fluid dynamics.

We’re proving the economic case for this. It could support cislunar transportation needs as well as support a Moon Village.

Today I'm modeling extraction of water from the Moon, working with Colorado School of Mines and as part of the Cislunar1000 vision for 1000 people living in space within 30 years.
