    Remember the following communities are massively underrepresented in academia: Working class people Poor people Indigenous people People from low income countries. Not only are marginalised people excluded they’re often spoken for, about and over.

    Bear in mind also if you only have one minority in a majority event their day is going to be extremely exhausting. you need diversity, accessibility and agreements to make spaces open and welcoming to all

    You cannot give excuses like it’s too hard to find people or you don’t know who they are or where to locate them or that you asked one minority person who wasn’t available so you gave up. It all points to you being the problem.And your events are so much better if they’re diverse

    Also if you’re an event organisers you need to allocate plenty of time to find and approach a diverse range of contributors and ensure all accommodations are made for audiences and speakers. This is frequently left to the last minute - and it shows.
