I'm wondering what patients would want to be called

That would be really helpful to hear.

I really like the rephrasing of that. I also cringe when I hear non-compliant, agressive and "history of violence"- if a patient has been formerly incarcerated.

Thx for sharing! It might seem anachronistic, but I’m going to use “people placed at high risk” in my dissertation. Thus far, I’ve broadly used “susceptible groups” while explaining social & evironmental factors increasing their vulnerability. Your choice seems more succinct.

@RaeofSunshine79 what are your thoughts on the term "medically complex patient"? - Još 4 druga odgovora

I literally said to a student who used this term that the family she was describing as high risk were poor, and had poor literacy. They did what they thought was right. We educate.

I try to avoid the discourse of risk where possible and use "disproportionately affected by." Risk discourse can be stigmatising, focusing on the individual rather than the structural context that affects outcomes of key populations.

B/c the issue shouldn’t be w/ the patients, it should be w/ our health care system which is “ill-designed” to care for & coordinate care for pts w/ mult. co-morbidies who face mult. structural barriers to care.
